Community Food Security Initiative: Sharing Pipsi Across Ottawa

On Friday, Amautiit Nunavut Inuit Women’s Association continued its commitment to supporting Inuit food security by preparing and distributing approximately 10 pounds of Pipsi (dried Arctic char), creating nearly 60 individual portionsfor Inuit community members in Ottawa.

The distribution began at Tungasuvvingat Inuit, continued to Isaruit Inuit Arts Community lunch, and followed the Outreach Busses route, then ended at the Ottawa Inuit Circle helping connect with Inuit community members throughout the city. Through word of mouth and community connections, people came together to ensure that those who could benefit from traditional food were reached.

Traditional foods are more than nourishment they strengthen cultural identity, foster connection, and support overall well-being. Sharing country food is an important expression of Inuit values of caring for one another and ensuring no one is left behind.

This initiative was made possible through the dedication of volunteers and community members who generously gave their time to prepare, package, transport, and distribute the Pipsi. Their efforts reflect the strength of Inuit communities working together to support one another.
