Inuit women, girls, and 2SLGBTQIA+ people continue to face disproportionate violence across Inuit Nunangat and in urban communities.

This is not a new crisis.
It is the result of colonial systems, displacement, systemic racism, and ongoing inequities that continue to impact Inuit lives today.

At Amautiit, we honour those we have lost, stand with families and survivors, and work toward a future where Inuit women and 2SLGBTQIA+ people are safe, supported, and thriving.

Why This Matters

Indigenous women and girls in Canada are significantly more likely to experience violence than non-Indigenous women. Inuit-specific realities including housing insecurity, lack of access to services, and systemic barriers further increase vulnerability.

This crisis is not only about statistics.
It is about real people. Real families. Real communities.

Every life lost or missing leaves a lasting impact on loved ones and communities across generations.

Our Role at Amautiit

Amautiit works to support Inuit women and families through advocacy, education, and culturally grounded programming.

Our work includes:

  • Creating safe and supportive spaces for Inuit women
  • Hosting healing circles and community gatherings via zoom
  • Raising awareness about MMIWG2S+ through education and outreach
  • Advocating for systemic change and culturally appropriate supports
  • Amplifying Inuit voices, stories, and lived experiences

We are guided by Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) values respect, collaboration, and care for one another.
