See more on the whole project here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Gender Markers on GN Identification<\/strong><br>As of September 2025, the law allows changes to gender on GN-issued identification,<br>and also a non-binary gender options. <a href=\"https:\/\/nunatsiaq.com\/stories\/article\/mlas-add-non-binary-option-to-nunavut-birth-certificates\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/nunatsiaq.com\/stories\/article\/mlas-add-non-binary-option-to-nunavut-birth-certificates\/\">LINK<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However those changes will not take effect until Regulations and<br>application forms are developed, a process which the GN said might take up to 18<br>months. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amautiit.ca\/ik\/resources\/services\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"108\">READ MORE<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Nunavut Human Rights Tribunal<\/strong><br>In March 2024 we published a report on the profound failures of the Nunavut Human<br>Rights Tribunal and our recommendations. To date we have received no<br>acknowledgement or reply from either that Tribunal or the Government of Nunavut,<br>despite our follow-up letter in July 2025. The Tribunal\u2019s website reflects no material<br>changes. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amautiit.ca\/ik\/supporting-indigenous-women-and-2slgbtqqia\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"628\">READ MORE<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Income Assistance<br><\/strong>We considered the Income Assistance Regulations \u2013 unchanged since before Nunavut<br>was a territory &#8211; and noted that an income assistance officer has broad and unfettered<br>powers to require a recipient to undergo treatment or counselling, or work for free or in<br>unsafe conditions, completely at the discretion of the income assistance officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amautiit.ca\/ik\/supporting-indigenous-women-and-2slgbtqqia\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"628\">READ MORE<\/a><br><strong>Protection of Personal Information<\/strong><br>We considered gaps in the legal protections for personal information in Nunavut &#8211; the<br>organizations that Nunavummiut interact with and depend upon, that have no obligation<br>to keep that information private. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amautiit.ca\/ik\/supporting-indigenous-women-and-2slgbtqqia\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"628\">READ MORE <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Praise<\/strong><br>In the course of other research into GN processes, we looked at many application<br>forms.
