Seal Distribution Initiative Supports Food Security in Rankin Inlet

Amautiit recently completed a community seal distribution initiative in Rankin Inlet as part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening Inuit food security and supporting access to country food.

Working alongside local hunters, Elders, and the Canadian Rangers, ten seals were harvested and distributed to community members, with priority given to Elders, widows, and families experiencing barriers to accessing traditional foods.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Sakkuaqti Fotheringham and Terence Tootoo for providing country food for the community, Amautiit Elder Atuat Tootoo for her guidance, and the Canadian Rangers, for assisting with distribution. A thank you to the participants including Jennica Pissuk, Christine Tootoo, Joan Kalaserk, Angela Anawak-Gamble, Nellie Kusugak and Marianne Kubluitok.

This initiative reflects Inuit values of sharing, caring for one another, and ensuring that traditional foods remain accessible within our communities.

Qujannamiik to everyone who helped make this initiative possible.
